Engagements
Kerri and James | Northside and OTR
I don’t need to say much about how incredible this couple is, because you can see it on camera (but I probably will anyways). From the minute we had our first conversation about this engagement shoot I knew I was going to love them. And then we she broke out the red dress & boots, then the blue Anthro dress & red shoes I knew I REALLY loved them:)
Kerri and James are both in the creative world, which in some cases can be intimidating for a photographer. Not with this couple. They were both so laid back and fun to be around. They fit so well together. One of my favorite questions to ask during an engagement session is “What draws you to each other?” I love hearing couples talk about why they want to be together, it’s so good for my soul! Kerri said, “I love his childlike passion for life. The way kids act when opening presents on Christmas morning is the way James acts about anything he likes as an adult”. And James said, “I love all the little quirky things about her that I see when no one else is around. It’s the little things she doesn’t share with the rest of the world I love the most”. How much do you love those answers?
Kerri and James, I loved the time we spent together. You are beautiful in so many more ways than just on camera. Your love (and like) is real and I am honored to have played a small part in the process. Here are some of my favorites from our time together:
{I want to email you. | I’m getting married…like, for real. | I want to read your thoughts (on Twitter). | I’m more of a Facebook-er.}
Tisha and Mike | Oxford
When I first met Tisha and Mike I knew that we were going to have a great time together. They came in to the studio to talk about their wedding and we ended up chatting for 2 hours! They are just so easy to talk to and so fun around each other.
This session was another glimpse into how cool of a couple they are. We laughed together and talked about their wedding. They are just so perfect for each other. At one point I said to Mike, “I love that you make each other laugh”. Laughter is one of those things that creates intimacy and they definitely have that.
Tisha and Mike, I am so lucky to know you guys! I am really looking forward to getting to know over this next year. Here are some of my favorites from the day:
{I want to email you. | I’m getting married…like, for real. | I want to read your thoughts (on Twitter). | I’m more of a Facebook-er.}
Sonya and Chris | UC and OTR
This session almost didn’t happen. Sonya’s hair person had strep throat, it was crazy hot and humid that day and then 20 minutes before the session it rained so hard that we all thought we were going to have to cancel. But we didn’t. And it was perfect.
I loved so much about this session: the clouds, the sun, the architecture, the red dress and they way they look on camera. But what I loved the most was getting to walk around their alma mater and hear stories of why that campus means so much to them. They were both in the RA program there when they met, Chris in pharmacy school and Sonya in CCM. She said, “here’s where we used to sneak out of our dorms after bed check and make out.”
Every step we took was filled with memories for the two of them and I was lucky enough to relive some of it with them.
Sonya and Chris, I am incredibly honored to be a part of your journey. Thanks for showing me around the places that mean so much to you. Here are some of my favorites from our time together:
{I want to email you. | I’m getting married…like, for real. | I want to read your thoughts (on Twitter). | I’m more of a Facebook-er.}
Melanie and Brad | Ft. Thomas, KY
I had so much fun as Melanie and Brad showed me around the farm where they met and then the town where they live. I can’t believe I have never been to downtown Ft. Thomas, what an amazing place for pictures! The light was gorgeous, the humidity was high and love was in the air. These two had a lot of fun with each other and I had a lot of fun with them. I can’t wait for their wedding at Krippendorf Lodge later this fall.
Melanie and Brad, thanks for being such great hosts and for looking great even in the extreme heat. Here are some of my favorites from your day:
{I want to email you. | I’m getting married…like, for real. | I want to read your thoughts (on Twitter). | I’m more of a Facebook-er.}
Alisha and Mike | Hyde Park/Eden Park
Alisha and Mike are a great couple. They showed themselves to be troopers too when they braved the heat for our Hyde Park and Mt. Adams engagement session on Tuesday night. Even though it was hot, the light was gorgeous and it made for some fun picture times.
As we were walking I asked them both the question, “So what draws you together?” Mike’s immediately said, “God.” and then followed with, “Everything just fit, it was meant to be.” How incredible of an answer is that? Then Alisha quickly said, “His eyes.” Again, great answer:) There is just an ease about their relationship, nothing feels forced. Mike’s right, they just fit.
Alisha and Mike, thanks for an incredible evening of conversation and pictures. You guys are amazing and I am so excited for you as you fly off to Cancun next February for your amazing destination wedding! Here are some of my favorites from our time together:

Emily and Aaron | Mt. Adams
One of the coolest things about this job is getting to photograph several couples from the same circle of friends. Emily and Aaron found me through Adam and Jessica and are friends with Paige and Kevin, as well. That means three weddings in the next year with the same group of friends…AWESOME!
First let me say: I love this couple!
Aaron shares my affinity for Apple products and has been working on developing an iPhone/iPad app for a while now. I can be a huge nerd when it comes to gadgets so to say I am little in awe of his work would be an understatement:)
Emily is working on finishing her degree in the DAAP graphic arts program. As we were walking around I confessed to Emily that I feel I should have been a graphic designer in another life. Don’t get me wrong, I love what I do, but every now I get lost in designing a piece and thin, “I could do this too!”
So basically, if you just average this couple together you come out with a hybrid person that I would like to be. Not weird at all.
Emily and Aaron, you guys were so fun to spend the evening with. Thanks for trusting me when I asked you to walk through a muddy field of wildflowers and for kissing in front of me, even though you guys don’t do that in front of other people:) You guys are so cute together.
Here are some of my favorites from the day: (One thing to note, Emily wanted me to let everyone know that the Great American Building in the background of the last picture is her favorite building in Cincinnati, maybe even the world)

Paige and Kevin | Devou Park and Newport
Sometimes I forget how amazing this city is. I know, I know, it’s not popular to love Cincinnati, but most of the time I really do. When Paige and Kevin said “We LOVE Cincinnati and want to have a Cincinnati themed engagement session” I knew exactly what they meant. So we hit some of the good spots and got some great pictures!
Paige and Kevin remind me of me and my wife Edie in a lot of ways. Paige is a nurse and so is Edie, they love the city, they had to deal with some hard family stuff early on in their relationship and it made them stronger. I loved getting to know them on Wednesday. I especially enjoyed hearing Paige tell the story of when she first knew she was going to marry Kevin. They weren’t even dating and it hit her all of the sudden, “Oh my gosh, I am going to marry him.” It was so cute and romantic to hear her tell the story.
Engagement sessions are such great pick me ups for me because I get to see people who are in love and I get to hear them talk about what makes them want to spend the rest of their lives with each other. Paige and Kevin, you are wonderful together and so fun to be around and talk to. I’m excited about your Longworth Hall wedding in July:) Here are some of my favorites from the day:

Diana & Richard | Cincinnati Northside
I think you’ll agree with me that Diana and Richard are a great looking couple! In addition they are the type of couple that makes a photographer’s job super easy. When they look at each other they can’t help but smile, when they talk they can’t help but laugh and when you tell them to “have a moment” they really have a moment. Nothing is faked and it shows!
Northside really is one of those places that possesses photographic magic. I’ve only done a few sessions there, but both times the light has been amazing and the backgrounds/textures couldn’t be any more fun.
Diana and Richard, thanks for a fun time and for taking a little walk with me in Northside. I can’t wait for your (really fast approaching) wedding:) Here a few of my favorites from the day:
{I want to email you. | I’m getting married…like, for real. | I want to read your thoughts (on Twitter). | I’m more of a Facebook-er.}
Katherine & Marty | Mainstrasse.
Katherine and Marty are University of Louisville people but I love them anyway:) Being from Lexington, it takes a lot for me to like UofL fans but these two totally won me over. They are fun, laid-back and totally trusted me for the shoot. I love it when all those things come together!
Needless to say they look amazing! and Mainstrasse is a great place for some super cool backdrops. I loved walking around with them and even though it was a bit chilly, Katherine rocked that dress the entire time with no complaints.
Katherine and Marty, thanks for trusting me! I love your pictures because of the visible love you have for each other. You are going to have an incredible wedding, but more importantly you are going to have an incredible journey with each other:)

Kara & Ken | Northside
Northside | Cincinnati, OH I want to start of with a disclaimer: I am usually pretty opposed to applying a lot of vintage effects to the engagement and wedding pictures I photograph. I try as hard as I can to produce pictures that are timeless and stay away from things I perceive as trendy. I always say that I want you to be just as proud of your pictures 10 years from now as you are the day you look at them. However, there are certain rare times that it makes sense with the subject of the photograph…this was one of those times.
As you can see from the photographs, Kara & Ken went the extra mile with this shoot! As a photographer you LOVE when a couple really wants to create a certain look for their engagement shoot. When Kara emailed me and told me that they were loving the show Boardwalk Empire and wanted to go that direction with their shoot I said “yes, please!” I also love how they didn’t go overly costume with their styling. They could have easily worn those outfits to a great Friday night date and no one would have thought anything of it. On top of having a great sense for creating the look they wanted, they also had access to an amazing location. Kara’s uncle lives in Northside in a house that was built in 1896. It is in immaculate condition and his attention to detail throughout the house with art and furniture taste is perfect! I am one lucky photographer, that is for sure.
Kara and Ken couldn’t be more easy going and fun to be around. Our time together was spent talking about their wedding, sports, the Westside and how much they love their friends/family. And apparently they have a LOT of friends & fmaily because they are expecting 400+ at their wedding!!!! That tells you most of what you need to know about who they are: great people who love each other and are the kind of couple that everyone wants to be around.
Thanks for an incredible day and a memorable shoot you guys…Here are some of my favorites from our time together:
Betsy & Will | Historic Burlington, KY
Main St. & Boone County Fairgrounds | Burlington, Ky. Betsy and Will remind me of home. They both are from Kentucky (I was born and raised in Lexington) and Will actually went to high school about 20 minutes from my house. I’m sure everyone feels this way but there is something refreshing about hanging out with people who get where your from…the slower pace, the horse farms, the people. It’s just a little different just a few hours south.
They were so great to walk around with as we explored Old Burlington. We chatted about high school football, law school, how they met, how he asked her to marry him and plenty of other things. They couldn’t be more made for each other. I love the way he makes her laugh and the way she looks at him when he’s not looking:)
I also loved their engagement session because everything came together so perfectly: Betsy got that amazing dress at Anthropolgie, some killer boots (none of these pictures do them justice, but trust me they were killer!), her flawless make-up was done by Nancy Dawson at Brideface and the gorgeous weather/light was provided by a crazy warm day for late November in Cincinnati. Needless to say, our day was perfect.
Here are some of my favorite images from our time together:
Jessica & Adam | Northside Cincinnati
Northside | Cincinnati, OH I know it sounds very cliche but I’ll say it anyways…I am blessed to be able to do something that I love! Adam and Jessica are the kind of couple that make you want to go out and shoot every day. They are funny, fun to be around and sincerely love each other to the utmost. I am an incredibly lucky person.
This was the first engagement session I have shot where we started shooting before the sun was completely up. I am not much of a morning person, but the pictures were totally worth it! Being able to hang out and walk around Northside before it was totally awake made all the difference in the world. And needless to say, the light was INCREDIBLE.
These two made my job super easy because all they did was laugh and have a good time together. All I had to do was push the button at the right time:) And I have to admit that the “ninja assassin” picture is one of my favorites of all time. It looks as if Adam jumped out of the trees to attack her, but in reality he did that from a standing jump right next to her…it looks awesome!
Thanks for a really great morning guys! Here are some of my favorites from our session:
Andrea & Bill | Hyde Park
Ault Park and Hyde Park | Cincinnati, OH Bill and Andrea are such a great couple. The two hours we spent together on Sunday night just flew by as we talked about sports, crime dramas and living in Oakley. I love that they live 1 street over from me, for some reason I always feel this bond with people from my neighborhood. It’s like we all know this little secret about how great of a neighborhood this is:)
Despite all their worry about how they would look in their pictures, I think we answered the question: incredible. Here are my favorites from the day:
Robin & Tommy | Mt. Adams
Ault Park & Mt. Adams | Cincinnati, OH Robin and Tommy are incredibly fun to hang out with. SOmetimes during our session I found myself forgetting that I was there to take their picture. We would start talking and all of the sudden I would remember, “Oh yeah the sun’s going down, we should get some pictures”. As you can see they both have great fashion sense (I love that yellow and white dress Robin wore at Ault Park). You can also see that they are a great couple together…they are incredibly fun, incredibly romantic and most of all love to laugh with each other.
Thanks for such a great time guys! City View was amazing (especially the Grippos:) and you company was even better.
